Mount Gerizim and the Samaritans
Mount Gerizim and the Samaritans is part of the Tentative list of Palestine in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Mount Gerizim is a sacred mountain south of Nablus and is the religious centre of the ethno-religious group of Samaritans. The Samaritans believe that on Mount Gerizim, according to biblical tradition, Abraham wanted to sacrifice his son Isaac. The archaeological remains on the main summit probably date from the Hellenistic period.
